Flower Girl Hair Flowers: A Gentle Guide to Crowns, Clips and Comfort
The littlest member of the bridal party deserves flowers that stay put, feel gentle, and make her feel like part of the day.

She may be the smallest person at your wedding. Do not tell her that.
In her mind, she is not "cute decoration." She is essential personnel, with a basket, an aisle, and a mission. The right hair flowers make her feel exactly that important, and the wrong ones itch, slip, and end up in her mother's purse by the reception.
Here is what fourteen years of making flower girl pieces by hand has taught me.
Comfort first, always
A crown she forgets she is wearing is a crown that stays on for photos. Look for:
- Light pieces. Clay flowers surprise people, made petal-thin, they are far lighter than they look, and they never wilt or drip water down a small neck.
- Soft finishes. Satin ribbon ties and smooth edges, nothing scratchy against young skin.
- A gentle fit. Ties adjust better than stiff bands for small heads, and they forgive a growth spurt between the fitting and the wedding.
Crown, clip, or pins?
- The crown is the classic for a reason. A full circle of small blossoms reads beautifully from every angle as she walks, and it is the piece most flower girls ask for by name.
- Clips and pins suit older flower girls (seven and up) who want to feel grown-up like the bridesmaids, or little ones with very fine hair that will not hold a crown.
- A small cluster pinned above one ear is the sweet middle ground: pretty, light, and nearly impossible to knock loose, even during enthusiastic dancing.
Match her to the wedding, not to the bride's bouquet exactly
The loveliest flower girl looks borrow two things from the bride, a color and a flower, and let the rest be its own small scale. Your bouquet in miniature, softer and simpler. And if she carries one of my handmade satin purses, in soft lavender or hand-sewn pink, with an easy-open top made for tiny hands carrying big-day treasures. The crown and the purse together make her feel like the day truly includes her. Because it does.
One practical kindness
Order her piece with a little growing room and have her try it on while she practices her walk. A confident flower girl is a calm flower girl, and a calm flower girl is a gift to everyone standing at the end of that aisle, holding their breath.
She will remember being your flower girl for the rest of her life. Make sure what she remembers feeling is beautiful, and never itchy.
